The Webcam Sky Explorer system, installed on top of the “ad Statuas” Observatory, is placed on a sturdy self-propelled pile, properly wind-braced and stabilized by an electromagnetic braking system, which guarantees stability even in case of strong wind.
The watertight webcam case is equipped with a heating system with semiconductor heaters regulated by thermostats, to keep the suitable temperature for the proper functioning of the electronic hardware and avoid condensation water in the glass.
There is also a cooling system made up of fans to remove heat during summertime. A temperature and humidity sensor enables to monitor the internal conditions, in order to intervene remotely if critical values were reached.
The core of the system is a mini pc/server. This enables to remotely and automatically control the Canon webcam which takes pictures of the wonderful landscapes of our area.
